Social Accountability Guidelines and Policy

Burnac Produce Limited is committed to social and environmental responsibilities. Our commitment includes the following guidelines consistent with the Social Accountability Guidelines SA8000:

Child Labour: No use or support of child labour.

Forced and Compulsory Labor: No use or support of forced or compulsory labour; no required “deposits”—financial or otherwise; no withholding salary, benefits, property or documents to force personnel to continue to work; our personnel have the right to leave the premises after the workday and to terminate their employment; and no use nor support of human trafficking.

Health and Safety: We provide a safe and healthy workplace and follow best practices for the prevention of potential occupational accidents. We have a functioning and effective Joint Occupational Health and Safety Committee with duly certified worker representatives. A senior manager is responsible for ensuring compliance to the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA). Instruction on Occupational Health and Safety is provided for all personnel and we have an effective system to detect, avoid and respond to risks. All accidents are investigated and remedial action is taken. We provide personal protection equipment and medical attention in the event of a work-related injury. We remove and reduce risks to new and expectant mothers; and we provide hygienic facilities, potable water and sanitary food storage. Our workers have the right to remove themselves from imminent danger.

Freedom of Association and Right to Collective Bargaining: Our company respects the right of employees to form and join trade unions and bargain collectively. All personnel are free to organize trade unions of their choice. We ensure no discrimination occurs against personnel engaged in worker organizations.

Discrimination: Discrimination based on race, national or social origin, creed, birth, religion, disability, gender, sexual orientation, union membership and age is strictly prohibited. We also have policies prohibiting harassment in our workplace. No discrimination in hiring, remuneration, access to training, promotion, termination and retirement is allowed.

Workplace Violence: We have a policy prohibiting all forms of workplace violence and a process for reporting and investing incidents of workplace violence.

Disciplinary Practices: Treat all personnel with dignity and respect; zero tolerance of mental or physical abuse of personnel; no harsh or inhumane treatment.

Working Hours: Compliance with laws and industry standards.

Remuneration: We respect the right of personnel to legal minimum wage; all workers are paid at least legal minimum wage; wages and benefits are clearly communicated to workers; workers are paid in convenient manner; overtime is paid at an appropriate rate.

Environmental Responsibility: Our commitment to reduce the environmental impact of our operations and our emissions includes a recycling program and the use of energy-efficient equipment.
